Having a strong support system during the job search is key and here’s why:
1. IT’S EXHAUSTING. Job searching is hard work. It’s a lot when building resumes, applying to jobs, talking with recruiters, and going on interviews.
2. IT’S LONELY. Share your progress with others. There’s (undue) shame attached to job hunting. Be proud that you’re looking for a better opportunity for your professional development. There’s no shame that you want to better yourself, your career, your life, and better support yourself and your family. This is a great thing to do!
3. IT’S AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER. One minute, you’re so excited to score an interview with your dream company. The next minute you’re being told you were passed over. It’s a lot of ups and downs which also adds to the exhaustion in #1.
4. FEEDBACK HELPS YOU IMPROVE. If you’re constantly sending out stale resumes or sharing your story in a way that’s not convincing to the hiring manager, that’s where feedback can help you get better.
