Women tie more of their self-worth to degrees and certificates whereas men rely more on their confidence and past experiences.
Do you know why?
Believe it or not, it boils down to confidence in your growth mindset.
If you know that you’re capable of learning on the job, learning on the fly, and ramping up quickly, then you won’t feel compelled to cover your office wall with credentials FIRST.
Don’t get me wrong.
Credentials have their place in this work world. They are absolutely worth pursuing.
But you can pursue them WHILE you’re working in that new job or after you get that promotion.
Don’t use them as an excuse to delay moving forward with your career like:
— I’ll ask for that promotion after I pass my AZ-900 certification.
— I’ll apply for that new job after I finish my master’s degree.
— Even though I have years of relevant experience, I’ll consider a career pivot once I’m certified in SQL, Java Bootcamp, you name it…
Take action now. Don’t delay.
There will always be another credential or degree to pursue.
Find a job that will pay for you to pursue them while you work.
Ladies – it’s time to stop making excuses and start taking action.
