I’m an imposter.
I don’t have a computer science degree.
I haven’t been in the Corporate America scene my whole career.
I took a non-traditional path to Microsoft.
What are some unexpected things I’ve done in my career?
— I’ve sold real estate and am still a licensed broker for 20 years now.
— I worked in manufacturing where I had to wear a hard-hat and steel-toed safety shoes.
— I was a technician working at the base of cell phone towers where I’d have to work the midnight shift to re-wire cabinets.
— I was a Wella Hair Model and performed in a live runway show in Las Vegas.
And now that I work at Microsoft, I find myself surrounded by people with computer science degrees that have worked at places like Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple.
And guess what?
I fit right in.
I do my job and I do it well.
My diverse background and perspective help me add value to my team.
I’ve seen the world outside of technology.
I’ve worked in lots of places in different industries with a variety of people.
The path to tech careers isn’t always a straight line. It’s okay to zig-zag creating your own path.
I hope you’ll be an imposter like me!
