“So tell me about yourself…” puts fear in the heart of every job seeker at interviews and networking events.
When I used to just say “I’m a mechanical engineer,” people usually responded like this:
1. Can you fix my car? << That’s mechanic, not mechanical engineer although many engineers can fix cars.
2. Do you drive a train? << I don’t hear this as much these days but it used to be very popular.
3. I have no idea what that is but it sounds hard. << Most engineers feel the same way and yes, it is hard.
If you don’t have a solid 1 – 2 minute answer for this question, then you need to get on this right away.
Even if you’re not in the job market, you should be able to answer this question because you never know when the right opportunity might be knocking.
Part of the job hunt is learning how to articulate your worth in a clear and precise pitch (without feeling or sounding too salesly).
And if you have no idea where to start, then send me a message to discuss this further!
