My client was told by their manager: “You can only move so fast” in terms of promotions.
If you’re delivering impact and results but your promotion velocity doesn’t match what you’re producing, it’s time to move on.
In 2017, I worked my last job in manufacturing. I was making very little money, traveling away from home a lot, and exhausted all.the.time.
Since my current company and role didn’t have a career path for me, I made my own.
— I learned the job search ins and outs.
— I updated my resume and interviewing skills.
— I switched industries.
— I shifted roles.
— I learned the Corporate America ways.
And I promoted myself to a contract role at Bank of America. Then I promoted myself to a permanent FTE role at Wells Fargo. Then I promoted myself to the tech industry at Microsoft.
Each time, I didn’t wait for my manager to “give” me a promotion. I made the promotions for myself.
Remember, just like Pi, you have infinite potential.
